Dr Hanafy was born in Cairo, Egypt and earned his undergraduate medical degree from Cairo University (MBChB) in 1986. He has been working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Australia for the last two decades. He completed his specialist training in Adelaide where he received special training in the management of high risk pregnancy and laparoscopic surgery. In 2002 he was appointed as staff specialist at Logan Hospital and the clinical sub-dean for Griffith University. In 2007 he was appointed at the Gold Coast Hospital as a Staff Specialist and Senior Lecturer at Griffith University. Presently Dr Hanafy operates his private practice from his consulting suite, 3D John Flynn Medical Centre, Tugun.
As the Women’s Health Lead at Bond University, he makes sure that he is always up to date. He is an accredited Examiner at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and has several publications in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Hanafy is actively involved in teaching the medical students at Bond University.
Being a father of two children, and having spent two decades working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the public sector and seven years working individually in his private rooms, Ash understands the high level of standards in the management that pregnant women and their families expect. He believes in a woman-centered antenatal, labour and post-delivery care with close midwifery collaboration.
During your pregnancy, Dr Hanafy offers ultrasound at every visit to monitor baby’s growth.
In Gynaecology, Dr Hanafy has special interest in laparoscopic surgery, endometriosis, the management of abnormal periods and smears, abnormal bleeding, urinary incontinence and prolapse
Dr Hanafy is co-founder of the Uterus transplantation idea with colleague, Prof Mats Brannstrom, Gothenburg, Sweden. He is the Chairperson for the Uterus Tx Australia Centre and is a manager at the International Society of Uterus Transplant, Sweden.

When not working, Ash enjoys soccer and motor sports.
Demi-Rae is the Practice Manager for Dr Ash Hanafy. She moved from South Australia in 2010 and has worked in medical posts Orthopaedics and Obstetrics/Gynaecology for the last five years.
Demi-Rae will greet you at every appointment and will make you feel comfortable in all aspects of your visit. She has a very bubbly personality, and will always be smiling.
Demi will help you with any questions you may have regarding fees, appointments or any general enquiries. She will confirm with you the appointments, date of your surgery/delivery.
She works Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (8:00am – 4:00pm) and Wednesday and Friday (8:00am – 2:00pm).
